Week 34 of pregnancy

What's Happening with Baby
Your baby is getting ready for their big debut! The vernix, the waxy coating that protects their skin, is getting thicker, while the fine, downy lanugo hair has almost completely disappeared. Their tiny nails have now grown to the tips of their fingers.
Your baby is now about 4 3/4 pounds and measures 17 3/4 inches long (the size of a cantaloupe). This week, or in the next few, most babies will move into a head-down position to get ready for labor. While they are looking more and more like a newborn, their lungs are still maturing, getting ready for that first breath.

What You Might Experience
At your frequent prenatal checkups, your doctor will be closely monitoring you and the baby to ensure everything is progressing well. They will likely check your urine and blood pressure regularly and will also observe your feet and hands for any increase in swelling.
You are very close to your due date, and these checks help ensure that everything continues to go smoothly. You are likely feeling the weight of your growing baby, which can make moving around more challenging.

Key Things to Keep in Mind
As your belly grows, finding a comfortable sleeping position can be difficult. Many doctors recommend that pregnant women sleep on their side, rather than their back or stomach, so as not to restrict blood flow to the placenta.
If this is uncomfortable, try placing a pillow between your knees to relieve the pressure of your weight while you are lying on your side. This can make a big difference in your quality of sleep.
