Week 19 of pregnancy

What's Happening with the Baby - Weeks of Pregnancy.png

What's Happening with Baby

Your baby's kicks and movements are getting stronger and more vigorous! If you thought you felt flutters before, you may really begin to feel distinct movements now as your baby has plenty of space to twist and turn. Your baby is now about 6 inches long (the size of an heirloom tomato or a mango) and weighs around 8 1/2 ounces.

The skin is still very thin and transparent, appearing pinkish because the blood vessels are visible near the surface. Tiny nails and some hair are also appearing. Your little one is also learning how to suck, a crucial skill for feeding after birth. They might even be practicing by sucking their thumb in the womb!

What You Might Experience

As your baby becomes more active, you might find yourself feeling more tired, so be sure to rest when you can and don't overdo it. You may find you need more than eight hours of sleep at night to feel fully rested. A common symptom around this time is swollen ankles and feet, which can be particularly noticeable at the end of the day.

To help with the swelling, it is beneficial to rest with your feet elevated whenever you have the opportunity. These are all normal changes as your body continues to support your growing baby.

Key Things to Keep in Mind - Weeks of Pregnancy.png

Key Things to Keep in Mind

Your daily diet is very important for your baby's development. It should include a minimum of three servings of dairy products (like milk, yogurt, and cheese) or calcium-rich plant-based alternatives to support your baby's growing bones.

It's crucial to remember that your baby's growth and weight gain can be negatively affected if you smoke, drink alcohol, or take drugs. If you are struggling with any of these habits, please know that it is never too late to stop and seek support from your healthcare provider for the health of both you and your baby.
