What's Happening with Baby
Your baby is now very active, flipping and rolling around inside the amniotic fluid. You might even begin to feel the first subtle flutters of movement, an experience often called "quickening." The baby's body is growing very quickly and is beginning to straighten out from its earlier hunched position. A very fine, downy hair, called lanugo, is starting to grow on their skin.
Your little one is now about 4 inches long (the size of an apple) and weighs around 2 1/2 ounces. Internally, their bones are growing stronger and might be visible during an ultrasound. The kidneys are making urine, and the heart is efficiently pumping blood throughout their tiny body. For the rest of the pregnancy, the focus will be on the maturation of these organs and steady weight gain.
What You Might Experience
You might be noticing some changes in your skin's pigmentation. It's common for some women to develop a condition called chloasma gravidarum, often referred to as the "mask of pregnancy," which appears as darker patches on the face, typically on the cheeks and forehead in a butterfly-wing pattern. You may also see a dark line, called the "linea nigra," running from your navel down to your pubic bone.
Don't worry, these changes are caused by pregnancy hormones and they tend to lighten or fade significantly after the baby is born.

With all the physical and emotional changes happening, something like choosing what clothes to wear might seem trivial, but your comfort is important. As your body grows, investing in some comfortable maternity wear can make a big difference in how you feel day-to-day.
This is also a wonderful time to involve the whole family in the pregnancy journey. Remember that your partner and the future grandparents are also eagerly awaiting this new arrival. Sharing updates, appointments, and preparations can make this a special and bonding time for everyone.
