Week 12 of pregnancy

What's Happening with Baby
This week marks a significant milestone – your baby is conceptually turning three months old! All the main organs and body systems are now formed, though they still have much developing to do.
Some organs are already beginning to function. Your baby is now about 2 1/4 inches long (approximately 5.7 cm, about the size of a plum) and weighs around 1/2 an ounce (about 16 grams).
The eyelids are fully formed and growing, but they remain closed to protect the developing eyes. Distinct ears, ankles, and wrists have taken shape, and the fingers and toes are well-developed, complete with tiny nails. Interestingly, your baby's hands tend to develop a bit faster than their feet.
Your little one is also moving around quite a bit, though it's usually still too early for you to feel these subtle movements. Patience, that exciting moment will come!

What You Might Experience
You might still be feeling some tiredness and perhaps lingering nausea, although for many women, these symptoms begin to ease as the first trimester comes to a close.
As your pregnancy progresses and your uterus grows, it can put pressure on your colon, which may lead to or increase constipation.
To help manage this, focus on eating high-fiber foods (like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains) and be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
This is often a time when you might start to feel a bit more energetic as your body adjusts more fully to the pregnancy.

Key Things to Keep in Mind
One of the most reassuring developments around this time is that the risk of miscarriage has significantly decreased, which can allow you to feel more relaxed and confident about your pregnancy.
It's a good time to continue focusing on healthy habits.
Remember that it's important to be mindful of your salt intake, as excess salt can contribute to issues like hypertension.
Similarly, be careful with the amount of sugar you consume. An excess of sugar can lead to unnecessary fatigue, increase the risk of cavities, and potentially cause disorders in your blood metabolism.
Focusing on a balanced diet rich in whole foods will benefit both you and your baby.
