Week 37 of pregnancy

What's Happening with Baby During Week 37 of Pregnancy
Congratulations, you've reached an important milestone! Between weeks 37 and 40, your baby is considered full-term. Their bones are fully formed, although they are still softer and more flexible than adult bones. The lungs have matured and are now ready to function on their own. While they are mostly developed, their brain is still developing, so every day counts.
Your baby now weighs about 6 1/4 pounds and measures 19 1/4 inches long (the size of a stalk of swiss chard). To get ready for birth, they will usually settle down with their head down, arms crossed over their chest, and legs bent over their lower abdomen.

What You Might Experience During Week 37 of Pregnancy
With your due date approaching, your doctor will likely check the baby's position during your weekly appointments to ensure they are head-down. They may also perform a vaginal exam to check the dilation of your cervix, which can give an indication of how close you are to labor.
You might feel increasing pressure in your lower abdomen as the baby descends further into your pelvis.

Key Things to Keep in Mind During Week 37 of Pregnancy
Remember, it is best for your baby if your pregnancy can continue to a healthy delivery! Important organs like the brain continue to develop with each additional day. If your pregnancy is healthy, it's generally best to wait for labor to begin on its own.
Knowing what to expect immediately after birth can ease any anxieties. Right after delivery, the baby's health will be evaluated, their body will be dried, and secretions will be aspirated from their nostrils and mouth. This routine care is normal. Also, you should start looking for a pediatrician for your child and prepare a safe and comfortable room.
