Pregnancy Photography Frequently Asked Questions:

When should I schedule my shoot?

I advise six to ten weeks before your due date, but..... Scheduling depends on how your pregnancy progresses. If you're slowing down, schedule earlier. If you're having multiples, schedule earlier. If you're feeling great, schedule when it's convenient and you like your shape!

What should I wear for my photo shoot?

Wear anything you feel comfortable in and LOVE. Avoid patterns, stripes and plaids unless you love they are a true representation of you personality. I like solid colors: white, black and brown - Pants - jeans (any color), black pants Necklines - select v-necks, square necks, turtlenecks or deep scoop necks. Avoid crewnecks. -Bring long-sleeved tops, and preferably any top that opens down the front if it's not clingy. -Shirts - big, white, button-down rumpled man's shirt -Tanks - anything fitted or stretchy in solid colors (white, black, red, blue...)

What should I bring to my photo shoot?

Bring large or small props that have meaning. Bring your wedding veil, stuffed animals, building blocks, flowers...

What should I do in advance of the photo session?

Get a manicure and a pedicure a day or two in advance:
- Wear makeup! You'll get the best results if you do your own makeup or visit a makeup center prior to your shoot.   Call to talk about these options.
- Don't wear anything binding to the shoot.
- you don't want marks on your skin.

These images are extremely private. Can I restrict the photographer's use?

This is a common request. I completely understand that you might not want to share these very personal images with the world. Just let me know and we will most certainly respect your privacy.

Tips for a successful photo session:
  1. Schedule your photo session on a day that you will be relaxed and well rested.
  2. Eat a light snack before the shoot.
  3. Clothing should be solid color except white, without too much writing or branding, unless that is the purpose of the shoot. If in doubt, just bring it and we can decide while we are shooting.
  4. Make-up and jewelry are fine, though lots of jewelry can be distracting. But if in doubt just bring it and we can decide when we are shooting.
  5. If photographs “au-natural” are planned, don’t wear anything with elastic such as underwear or a bra on the day of the shoot so that no strap marks will appear on the photographs.
  6. Allow yourself to concentrate on the photo session by not scheduling too many appointments on the same day as your shoot.
  7. Bring any clothing or drapery that you would like to try to use in the photograph. Feel free to use items of sentimental value, such as hats and scarves.
  8. Please don't hesitate to email us if you have any further questions

A word on Newborn Photography

Mandy prefers to capture "fresh" newborns within the first 2 weeks of life. For the first week newborns fall into a very sleepy state, making them pliable and less likely to be disturbed while sleeping.

This early time provides her a wonderful window of opportunity to capture some peaceful, curling, sleepy images. Remember, the sooner after birth your newborn is photographed, the easier the session will be for everyone, and the better the photographs we will capture.

Older newborns tend not to sleep as soundly and do not curl up as easily. Also, their newborn acne, peeling skin, and colic tend to begin flaring up at around 2-3 weeks of age.

The day of your session please feed and burp baby before you arrive at the studio.OR Warm up the house more than usual, undress your baby down to their diaper and swaddle your little one to keep them warm. A well-fed and warm baby is a happy and sleepy baby.

Each of Mandy’s newborn sessions are as unique as your child. Many sessions can last up to 2-3 hours, allowing for plenty of time for feedings and comforting. Please do not schedule an outing or an appointment directly following the session. A rushed session will bring stress to what should be a relaxed and memorable event.

Lastly, Mandy loves using fun and chunky blankets, baskets, and "baby sized" containers. If you have a favorite blanket or container that you think may work, set them aside so Mandy can take a look to see whether or not she can use them.
